Orrin G Peek I See You04_01_05.jpg

Here is the world famous Orrin G up in the crab apple tree where we have two bird feeders. He thinks they are really cat feeders.

I took this with the EF-300mm f/2.8L IS with both the 1.4x II and 2xII extenders stacked. That makes it 840mm and f/8.

Here is another of Orrin G up in the tree at the feeder and for the pixel peepers a 100% unprocessed no sharpening crop

Whatever the case, this picture feeds the human eye very well. It also gave me an association with a picture I made from a white cat. Although both cats differ in looks, the expressions are very similar:http://www.pbase.com/roboele/image/37734025

I use the Gitzo G1317 Mk2 with either a Kirk ball head for stills or a Gitzo pan head for racing. Carbon fiber and weighs about 7 pounds with the head on it. I got the idea from the Epson print academy series featuring John Shaw who works out in your area.

Bill,

You are right my mistake. Physical lens focal length times crop factor equals relative field of view.

Thanks for the kind correction, you could have easily flamed me for that mistake. Duh.

Vinh,

Oh yeah the old Gitzo tripod was in use for these photos. The little Gitzo Explorer 2220 and ball head are really past the limit with this lens. Time for something a little sturdier.

James,
the field of view is like 1344mm but the focal length is still 840mm. now isn't that confusing..lol.

Great Capture. this looks like something I would try and take but
would miss cause the cat would keep moving. Nice Work.

840mm and you shot at 1/100 with no camera-shake? wow. :) either you've got 3 legs, or a tripod for the occasion. very nice shot. these peaking through types of shots are always great.

Bill great shot. I am really glad you started a "normal" PAD. So about this 840mm focal length. Shouldn't that be 1344?
300mm lens times 1.4 times 2 is 840mm for the extenders, but what about that crop factor of 1.6? Shouldn't it be 1344mm?

What a great shot to begin the new year with.
Love the natural framing, and the "hair light" shining on his head.

This is a wonderful shot and a beautiful minou. My daughter has one who looks just like him and I believe I used him for PaD in January or February.
