Cemetery Tombs circa 1890 - Architecture in Black and White

Metairie Cemetery

Because of our high water table in Louisiana, burials are conducted above ground or in sealed vaults below ground. Most of the tombs in Metairie Cemetery are architectural jewels and cost fortunes to build.

Interesting architecture. I have seen some of these in our cemeteries, but I can understand the reasons for yours to be built like this.

I've never seen this cemetery, but we have toured one in New Orleans. A great solution to the problem, and most are just extraordinary! Nicely done Coleen!

Lovely crypts with that worn patina only time can give. The toning is outstanding. V.
