12-MAR-2006

March 12, 2006

All tolled, we have been in Boot Key Harbor about three weeks now.
While here we met up with several old friends, and made new ones.
We explored the Keys from Grassy Key to Key West.
We ate at several fabulous restaurants.
Our tour of the Turtle Hospital, in Marathon, may yet prove to be a life changing experience.
We have riden-out a strong weather cold-front here.
We met a young couple who survived Hurricane Wilmer by tying
their small sailboat to the mangroves in Sister's Creek
and riding out the storm amongst the snakes and mosquitos.
We met other people who have had their lives turned inside out by the same storm.
All brave, strong and hearty people.
It has been a pleasure to spend time with them.
We have seen all manner of marine life carrying on their daily routines in the harbor and surrounding mangrove creeks.
It is a fascinating place to visit and observe.

Be that as it may, we have been ready to move on for about a week,
but the wind and waves were not favorable for where we wanted to go.
Tomorrow morning, we will pull the anchor and select the best direction of travel
based on the wind and sea conditions.
No telling where we will be tomorrow night.
I will let you know.

I tried to capture the corpuscular rays yesterday at sunset. They were too fleeting. Magnifique :)

Only a few fortunate men can take those nice shots. A requisite is to be an old salt, though.

A fabulous photo. Gets my vote. The couple who rode out Hurricane Wilmer reminds me of the movie "African Queen."
