Fatigue had reined down on us the day we arrived in Marathon's Boot Key Harbor. We showered and enjoyed a quiet evening onboard Shibumi. The next morning we lowered the dinghy and went ashore to do laundry. In the evening we joined friends at Burdines Restaurant for sunset, dinner and music. On March 12th, we had been in Boot Key Harbor for three weeks. While there we met up with old friends, and made many new ones. We explored from Grassy Key to Key West and visited countless fine restaurants. The tour of the Turtle Hospital, in Marathon, may prove to be a life changing experience (see the Marathon Turtle Hospital gallery below). We rode-out a strong weather-front here. We met a young couple who survived Hurricane Wilmer by tying their small sailboat to the mangroves in Sister's Creek. They rode out the storm amongst the snakes and mosquitos. We met other people who had their lives turned inside out by the hurricane; brave, strong and hearty people. It was a pleasure to spend time here. We saw all manner of marine live in the harbor and in surrounding mangrove creeks. It is a fascinating place to visit and observe. BR>The wind and waves were not favorable for where we wanted to go next. Tomorrow morning, we will pull the anchor and select the best direction of travel and point Shibumi that way. |
