Over and out... On September 26th, 1990, dark clouds gathered above Flugplatz Holzdorf in the East German Republic during the 'letzter Flugtag' of Jagd Geschwader (JG) 1. Despite the weather, an incredible number of MiG-21SPS/MF/UM's flew. As if they knew it was the last time. JG1 was disbanded a few months later and despite incidental sorties, the MiG's weren't needed anymore and flown over to Drewitz for scrapping. Here, the canopy of MiG-21PFM-SPS (in the LSK/LV known as MiG-21SPS) 560 is closed on the flightline at Holzdorf by a 'black man' (ground crew), early in the evening. This Fishbed-F (delivered on April 22nd, 1968) received a temporary Lw-serial (22+06) before being scrapped in 1993 after 1,903 flying hours.
