Penrose 07316.JPG

Kingston, Ontario, Canada, a UNESCO World Heritage Destination view map

Construction, by convict labour from the nearby Kingston Penitentiary, of The Rockwood Lunatic Asylum for the Criminally Insane commenced in 1859, was completed by 1870 with its first patients moving in as early as 1862. Architect William Coverdale designed the building, with for the day, larger rooms, 9x9', larger windows and more substantial common areas. It also had Canada's first central heating plant, installed as a safety measure to eliminate potential fire issues. Renamed Penrose some time in the 1900's the institution was finally closed in 2000 and the building is for sale.

Those convicts sure built some awesome places... I live your perspective here. If those walls could talk.......

Definitely looks friendlier from this angle. Even the windows look brighter. Love your perspective. V

It could serve as a condominium complex....still thinking it may be haunted. :) I want to check it out inside as well!
