Probably the best value for a non-oem standard zoom. Brilliant performance if you get a good one, some need elements aligning and there is batch variation, but the warranty is excellent. Everyone should own this lens.

Acquired my version in February, it is now my go to lens for basketball. Amazing value.

This is a GREAT lens! I have 3 canon camera's 20D,Rabel XTi, and the 40D... This lens works great on all of them. sharp!!! and a good price.

Would you go for this lens on a Nikon D50 or would you go for Sigmas dito with HSM and Macro (20 cm) ??

I just got this lens for my Canon Rebel XT, and so far I have been very impressed. It's a little bit soft wide open in the center with somewhat softer corners, but still good enough for low-light indoor photograhy. Stopped down it becomes incredible sharp! You almost need protective gloves to handle the images ;-) There is a bit dissortion wide open, but nothing photoshop can't handle. Colors and contrast are excellent. The build quality is pretty good.
For the price this lens can't be beat!

Como lente estándar me parece excelente. Sólo tengo un repoche de él: a veces no enfoca correctamente.

I tested the Tamron 17 50 f 2,8 against the Nikon 50mm f1,8. You can see the results in this page in Italian : http://www.sardiniachannel.eu/Nikon%20contro%20Tamron.htm

Excellent standard lens. Nice smooth bokeh for closeups and sharp throughout its range. Occasional CAs at the widest end when shooting wide open in extreme circumstances, but not very noticeable. Usually I stop down to at least f/8 when shooting at the wider angles anyways. Definitely blows the kit lenses away. The only competitor in my opinion is the Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8IS which gives you Image Stabilization but also costs about twice the price. There is a great review of this lens on photozone:

I like this Tamron 17-50(etc.) on my Canon 350D.
It gives nicely satured and natural colours, a pleasing contrast and details.
It even looks good on this camera, it has a good zoomrange and it is fairly light.
Excellent for its price.
