The former P J Carrolls & Co tobacco factory building was designed by renowned Irish architect Ronnie Tallon in the late 1960s. It is now part of the Dundalk Institute of Technology campus, home to the School of Informatics and Creative Arts. The tobacco company, which no longer manufactures cigarettes in Ireland, was famous for its collection of modern art, some of which is on display in the college although the most important pieces are held by the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin. This tower sculpture 'Sails' is by the German artist Gerda Fromel.
