RETURN TO VIETNAM AFTER 32 YEARS - 2007

It was my first time back in Vietnam after leaving Saigon on 22 April, 1975 for the United States. It was a great opportunities to visit relatives whom I haven't seen for 32 years. The presentation of this gallery is to present a wide spectrum of what I encountered on my trip. There were so many things I saw ranging from the thousands of scooters, daily life's activities during the day and especially at night, the vast amount of small businesses. This is the reason for the pictures not in any particular orders, so I hope you enjoyed traveling with me for my first trip back to Vietnam since the end of the war. I have added personal comments to many of the pictures in the gallery...you have to click the individual image to see the comments. I hope this will give you a sense of my thoughts or ideas when I took the image. We stayed in 7th district of Saigon, then visited my grandma place in Ben Tre and My Tho in the Mekong Delta, back to Saigon. We drove north to Mui Ne, just south of Nha Trang before returning to Saigon. Last few days the family drove south to Can Tho and the Floating Market. wow, I got to visit to Can Tho, Saigon, and my Friend Parents home near Tra Vihn (they live right next to the River by a small tributary), in July 2019. A wild Two weeks. I was never bored. This bought all the memories back. Wish I had taken more photos than I did.

Enjoyed seeing the "Cham towers" photo. But one of my recollections of that place was watching the VC set up morter tubes there in 1969 and all we could do was wait to get shelled out at the air base! We couldn't touch them since they were on religious territory! Ain't war HELL!!!---geezer

Long I am completely blown away by this fabulous gallery of pictures. You have a wonderful eye and magical talent. My favorites are some of the rice fields, fruit merchants, "My grandma", "Place of Honor", some of the boats in harbor and the fishing boats, "Fifteen floors", those of your family and friends, "Waiting for Customers", "Boat builders" "Bicycle against Pink wall", oh my goodness! and finally "Doing Laundry on dirty shore. I left Vietnam after a tour as a combat soldier almost 40 years ago. As you know, that Vietnam, with the war going on, was much more chaotic than the way life is now. I'm glad you were able to go back. This is a beautiful gallery. Thank you. Dave Berry
