I’ve had an ‘out of focus day’ today with disastrous travelling – a broken down train meant I waited on a platform for two hours on my way to London.
As with all of these things, the adversity made for a Dunquerque spirit among the stranded passengers and therefore less of a ‘bad day’ than should really have been the case. I actually sort of enjoy these moments of interaction with total strangers although I’d rather not experience them if you see what I mean.
I got to my important meeting by the skin of my teeth, having failed to make the meeting with my colleague to get our toes in a row totally so we went to the meeting blind. I then behaved like a real devil’s advocate and disagreed with more-or-less everything but I think that was important to do in the circumstances. So we came away with a plan of action.
Then I went to meet my colleague from another division of our company in our city office and we had a short meeting, followed by a couple of drinks in a pub. That’s where it started to go back out of focus because we got ‘hi-jacked’ by a seriously thuggish looking man who insisted on buying us another drink despite having almost no interaction with him other than sitting next to where he was playing a fruit machine….that did also look like the only exercise he gets!
He was getting very angry with the machine and thumping it about while we shrunk down in our seats trying to look inconspicuous!
I’m not sure how I manage to find these strange souls but for whatever reason they seem to gravitate towards me – I do hope it’s not a question of ‘like-minded souls’ and more of ‘opposites attract’ on this occasion. I did really enjoy meeting up with my colleague and sharing a few bits of what we do with one another – it’s good to get a different perspective on things from time to time, time to clear the focus and remove the myopic view of the world!
Last year too was a low-fi day!
