I’ve had a drama filled day today that a super hero should really have been involved in…..oh – that’s right – one was!
This is a super hero from a new film that’s coming out here soon. I’ve no idea what the film is, though Shazbop did tell me and I’ve forgotten! These things pass me by completely unless I clock the fact that the film is English (rather than American), then I at least look at it and evaluate whether I’d like to see it.
That’s not to say I don’t watch or like American films, of course I do, like every other person on the planet who ever watches a film. It’s just that my experience is that they don’t need to be sought out, they’re just there, surrounding you every day. You can afford to be completely passive about it and still realise that probably 90% of the films you’ve seen are American.
I met Colin for supper in town. We walked over Westminster bridge and he mentioned this image so I knicked his idea (or took up his suggestion if you prefer) and made him wait for the super hero to rotate round far enough to get to what I considered the optimal point on the London Eye’s rotation for the shot – that’s where he is you see, attached to the monster wheel that is on the South Bank. And, without fear of contradiction, he’s enormous!
We then walked through Westminster where there was a big drama unfolding – an office building had collapsed, trapping a man inside – it’d only just happened and there were police, fire crews and other rescue services by the seeming million everywhere. A super hero would certainly be useful here.
We had a positively delicious and thankfully uneventful supper, then ambled back to the station and I caught the train ‘home from home’. Shazbop is just about the perfect ‘landlady’ as she leaves me these detailed instructions, all written out with clear, concise detail.
Go here, when you see this landmark, press the bell on the bus and get off at the next stop. Turn down the side of this building into this street and walk 100 yards before turning again…..then you’re home. What a complete star.
I followed my instructions and was feeling as chuffed as ninepence when I walked into her street into the midst of another drama – there were plenty of passers-by ‘helping’ so I walked on but the gist of it was a domestic, where a woman had been dragged from her pushbike by her boyfriend and beaten up in the street. That’s my judgement from the couple of minutes when I was in earshot and sight of the incident anyway. She needed the forces of good to counter that sort of evil I reckon. A super hero very definitely fits that bill.
What a day – super heroes needed everywhere!
Last year too, I was enjoying the hospitality of my new landlady, Shazbop!
Colin - How'd I do, crowbarring my story around this image?????
