I used to think that this was the most architecturally uninspiring light ever; then one night I got caught out on Lake Erie in my 19 foot boat, waves quickly grew to the 4-6 foot range, and I had to idle in from about eight miles out. There is nothing as dark as a Great Lake at night, and every so often, a wave would break over my transom, flooding the boat. My bilge pump ran full time for two hours, and I kept my eyes fixed on the Buffalo Breakwater Light. We eventually got to it, and to safety behind it's breakwall, and I remember thinking, it's the most beautiful light I ever saw.
