Not managing this manouevre in elegant style a pilot nears the top of the pilot ladder.....luckily in this case not a very long one with internal acces to the ship keeping it nice and short. They can be a lot longer. And then there are all the steps in the accommodation to get up to the bridge. I always count them.....98 on the ship I was on this afternoon (7 decks times 14 steps....no calculator either).
