Finchale Priory

This comparatively small priory is situated in a scenic spot on the banks of the River Wear, about 4 miles from Durham. From it’s lowly beginning as a hermitage for St Godric – who lived a simple, lonely life in a crude hut for over fifty years – Finchale became a Benedictine priory, dependent on Durham Cathedral towards the end of the 12th century.
