Joop's Dog Log - Monday Jan 05

I have this thing with horses, you know.
I attract them. Maybe it’s my coat.
Anyway, the Parkpony is always glad to see me.
I don’t know why. I haven’t always been friendly.
He just walks around here. No basket, no shelter, no human, no work.
He sees the sun rise and then he sees the sun go down. He does get lots of food though.
So would it feel like freedom or would it feel like prison?
And does a horse ever get bored?
I need a horse whisperer to find out! Anybody?

Aye, and he is a Norwegian Fjord, and his mane looks like that naturally, maybe just a wee bit trimmed. He looks rather fat and happy and well groomed, I am sure he is quite loved.

FYI, someone stole this photo and posted it on their blogger site here: http://letsbefriends.blogspot.com/2004/09/dog-and-horse.html I saw it and immediately recognized dear Joop. (I'm librarygrrrl, formerly of fotolog, with Maggie Jane the dog.) I commented on their log that the image was from your site and said that they should credit you with it, which they didn't do. Vigilante-internet-users-for-Joop unite!

Hope you are all doing weel. Maggie Jane sends slurpies to Joop.

Well, Joop, I would imagine this poor horse guy gets mighty bored. Horses are pack animals. They like company. In the wild, they`re found in herds, and not alone. I think it`d be some kind of horse hell to be all alone, no friends, nothing to do. I think it`d make for a nutsy horse. You be careful, guy. You don`t want to be attacked by a homicidal horse! On the other hand, you don`t want to make his life any worse by like, teasing him or anything. No name calling, you hear? And say, you could probably ask him any questions you have. It might take a little time, and some very special listening, but I bet he`d tell you what you want to know. Just be careful. Sometimes we end up with more information than we wanted. I mean, if he`s REALLY miserable, maybe you wouldn`t want to know, cuz then you`d want to adopt him and that`d likely upset yr human. My advice is to just talk nicely to him.

Good morning Joop, your thoughts about the lonely horse come from your warm heart. Do it like the_nannish_one said: listen and you might hear the sorrows of the pony.

Whisper, whisper what have you got....moin Joop, we are sure that somebody cares for this horse, look at his fine haircut! We do have such a "lonesome single horse" in Güster too: Blacky is his name. Most of the time he is alone, somtimes his owner takes him for a ride across the fields. Bosse is not friendly to him, he always hits him with this paw on the nose...and me, Pelle? I AM AFRAID OF THOSE BIG HORSES....

Joop, you are a good Dog Ambasador to spend time with other animals. I bet this horse is so glad to talk with you and see your pretty wagging tail.

We might be able to help you here Joop. Our brother Charlie is a horse. I don`t really care what he does as long as I get to go to Florida with him. Chloe Bear, she can`t stand him or any of his kind, but she knows if they have hold of them its ok. She doesn`t like it if horses look at her or reach down to sniff her. She is a brave girl though because our mother works with them and she refuses to leave her side no matter what. Truth be told I think Chloe Bear is a little scared... while I fear nothing. Your horse looks ok, he might just like a friend or two in his field with him. Marvin

It is true what the Nannish One says, horses are not happy by themselves. But the company does not have to be another horse, it can be a goat, or a cat, or it could even be you Joop! I think you are helping this horse to be happier just by visiting him.

Oh dear, now I am going to worry about that horse. I HATE to see any animal even the slightest bit mistreated. I don`t know if that horse is feeling lonely and bored, but I did read what Nan said above, and it sure sounds like she knows what she is talking about.
So, since we are basically powerless in the face of so many things in our present-day world, perhaps, Joop, you and your human can be proactive and inquire about the horse at the park office. And in the meanwhile, I know you will be a friendly face for him to enjoy...even if you do bark at him once in awhile. I have a sneaking suspicion he likes you a lot.

how very interesting here! I would agree, that a horse does not want to be alone ( few animals want that). but if he is well fed and grooomed.. does that mean someone visits him every day?? you did not say. Or do folks just come by and leave food? and, if so, do they pet and groom? NO person/animal ever wants to be totally alone, I think.

Joop....this picture is going on my desktop! I love how both you and your horse friend seem so interested in what one another is saying. If only people could be more like you! You really appreciate your surroundings.....never stop observing the world around you....actually, I`m certain you will always take pleasure in whatever enviroment you find youself in!

This big guy does seem interested in you. In my Mom`s work she is around race horses and they do not take kindly to dogs, they seem pretty hyper, but several of them have their own goats in the stable with them. If something bad happens, like a fire, they will follow their goat out to safety. There have been some ugly happenings in Kentucky (about 15 minutes from my house) where very cruel and mean humans have set barns on fire and killed many of the beautiful horses. Ellis Park Race Track has had to increase their security and my Mom has to wear special badges to go there. I am glad this horse is safe and well cared for. This is a really cool photo!
