Joop's Dog Log - Sunday Jan 04

I never understood much of the economy.
My humans work for my cookies, I know that much, and I work for them.
If they would stop working I`d run out of cookies
and if I`d stop working for them they`d be lost.
But now several companies in my country are firing people that turn 60.
They do that to cut costs. But at the same time they`re saying people should work longer,
not till age 65 but till age 67 or 68, or else they`ll run out of workers.
Analyze that! Looks like they just get rid of the ones that are sick or worn out.
But they want to keep the good ones and work them till they drop.
And the unions are OK with that.
It`s a dog-eat-dog world.
Anyway, I`m still enjoying the snow. Have a good Sunday!

Hello Joop, you are a very good listener and do understand the tough working life of your humans!Companies in Germany do the same with their people for year and the ones left do double or triple work cause the promised new positions for new people are not refilled. The only thing that counts is the profit, as it always has been, but nowadays bosses are not as elegant as they have been in the past.Yes, you are right: the laws of wildnes are valid and we humans can be glad to have a good satisfiying job with nice collegues...and bosses...

Argh! There`s a subject you might not want to focus on, Joop, what with yr recent unfortunate nervous tummy. You don`t want to get sick again! Fortunately, most humans are like yours, decent, caring people who do what they can to make life better for everyone, dogs included. Not like those overly rich CEO`s who hog all the cookies and then watch them rot cuz they cannot eat that many themselves. I wish they could all visit Gary`s f`log (http://www.fotolog.net/mashuga/ for anyone who doesn`t already visit it regularly) Of course, those who don`t get it already likely never will. Sad stuff, eh, good buddy? Well, I guess we all just have to work a little harder, trying to make up for the evil in the world with whatever good we can do. I know you do, Joop. You make an awful lot of people smile with your f`log, the wonderful photos and your great philosophy. Keep it up, my friend, it all helps!

Yes, interesting social commentary, Joop. In general old people are devalued in my country. It would take too long to go into how that happens and the evidence for it, but perhaps with the exception of China, (and I don`t even know if this is so true in modern China) old people are not given appropriate respect and deference. I like the way your human took this picture...up a hill and he made sure we could see him (or at least his shadow). :) So, have a great day and enjoy those cookies your humans work so hard for.

Joop thet´s like here in my country too, here if you are 40 or older, you are lost... it´s impossible to find a job and they still wondering that men have to work till 65.

Well, Joop, it could be worse. You could have Wal-Mart, which values no worker, young or old. Full-time jobs and benefits are hard to come by with them, and the company seems to delight in destroying beautiful small towns like yours. Be vigilant, my Joop! Cheap cookies aren`t worth losing your way of life over!

Hey Joop, please tell you human that this is such a wonderful picture of a peaceful little minute of silent life...discussing all these heavy things we didn`t tell you this! It is fantastic that we dogs do not know that much about economy, our main job is to care for our humans in our special way....Bosslady is busy preparing the new working year after the short holiday and it is up to us to send you our best hugs for a good start!

Such deep thoughts and even social economical concerns today. The issue that you raise is indeed quite controversial it happens to be a topic of study in my work. The governments spends money on studies to find out about myths and facts concerning older workers. They want to promote a more positive attitude towards older workers, on the other hand this government is making many many officals redundant, particularly the elderly! Sometimes the dogs world is more sincere, cruel sometimes towards rabbits and squirels but loyal and reliable to humans

The blue shadows are so great, Tell Henk he is one awesome photo-making machine! As for age-ism, the world is more strange every day. It is cheaper to pay a young person beginning wages then pay someone with experience. Quality suffers, both in the product and the life of the person who has dedicated a part of their life to the company. Ugly buisness, this. You help us see beauty, thanks pal!

I never understood it either, but I guess money is the bottom line. But seems to me if you fire your experienced workers and then pay younger ones less, you`ll have more turnover and quality will sufer, whatever the field of work!
