‘Shopping center’ on the DQ when we lived there

This is Al-Kindi Plaza, which was the closest thing we had to a shopping center when we lived on the Diplomatic Quarter, although all it really had for us was our dry cleaners and a small grocery store. The large complex also had offices, a sizeable mosque and the Palace of Culture. That’s why I find the 1364 shopping center, with real stores, in the below/next picture to be so amazing.

I know that there has to be so many wonderful memories from your travels. I think embracing and appreciating different cultures is fantastic and the comparison of these two images is really a great presentation. DQ is such an ambivalent designation...one thinks immediately that there should be a Dairy Queen outlet...an ice cream might be welcome in the heat of the desert..
