21-Feb-2025 Taken by a neighbor

Aftermath

The destruction wrought in one of the affected yards by the tree that fell yesterday (see below/previous picture). I saw a tree guy surveying the scene earlier this afternoon and understand he’ll be back tomorrow with a crane to remove the tree from all three yards. That is going to be a huge job.

As I wrote on the other picture: Luckily nobody was outside at the time, but the tree leveled three decks and three staircases down to the back yards, broke windows and damaged the roof of one house as well as destroying the A/C compressor on another deck. It also pulled down a cable attached to the power pole next to our gate.

Potentially fatal disaster, posted earlier:

The noise of the falling tree must have been horrendous . Good that it looks like it missed both powerlines and houses.

So terrible, frightening, and miraculous that there was no personal injury or more. Impressive image as well. V.

Heureusement, il n'y a eu aucun blessé causer par la chute de cet imposant arbre. Une bonne période de nettoyage s'annonce!

It appears that no houses were stuck just fences and yards which if that is the case then it's a blessing...though messy

Big trees can do a lot of damage to homes, buildings, cars and people. Hope here only the fence got damaged and no one got hurt.
Jeff Real22-Feb-2025 15:49
Thankful that no one is hurt!
From this image it looks like that it was delinately very dangerous.
Great work to get the images.

That doesn't looks good, but it's a good thing no one was injured.

Pretty much the same type of damage here in Blacksburg. We even lost power for a while. We diid have a good deal of cleanup from downed pine branches. We had to hire someone to cut up and haul away a truck load of branches. A visually effective capture summing up how bad the storm was. V

Good that it went in the backyard and not into the houses. That’s a big tree! V

Great shot of the tree. It looks huge. Quite a task to clean that up.

OHMYGOODNESS...reminds me so much of what Helene wrought here! My neighbors across the street lost DOZENS of trees - some as large as this one. It's costs a fortune to have these cut down and removed. If DC won't pay for its removal at least there are three neighbors to share the cost! I home none of the homes was damaged.
Arnie Peterschmidt21-Feb-2025 23:22
Yikes, glad no one was standing in the way!

That is amazingly huge! Glad no one was hurt.

Such a small area for such a huge tree to be living. The damage is awful but what a relief that no one was injured.

The poor old tree, and the poor people facing cleanup after this destruction. I suspect all the winds you said you have had, plus age of tree, plus other factors combined to created this situation. It is truly amazing nobody was hurt, but the cleanup won't be quick. Another good documentary shot. V
