Potentially fatal disaster

Yesterday, as Andrew and Queenie were walking towards our back gate, they witnessed an enormous tree (in the yard of the house on the right) fall over and smash into the next two houses. Luckily nobody was outside at the time, but the tree leveled three decks and three staircases down to the back yards, broke windows and damaged the roof of one house as well as destroying the A/C compressor on another deck. It also pulled down a cable attached to the power pole next to our gate. The only reason for the fall we could imagine was that the tree was very old, was in constantly wet soil and couldn’t withstand the heavy winds we’ve been experiencing. Taken from Tim’s office in the back of our house.

They’re back! posted earlier:

So terrible, frightening, and miraculous that there was no personal injury or more. Impressive image as well. V.

I thought old trees were usually removed before this could happen. What a scary sight.

Yup bad things often happen when old or shallow rooted trees and winds get together.
