On my way home from an appointment, I stopped by Eastern Market for some vegetables and remembered what a convenient place it is to shop at on Capitol Hill. The 19th century building burnt down in 2007 but was renovated and reopened in 2009. It serves not only as a shopping place for locals but also as the venue for a huge flea market every weekend and has even become a tourist destination.
The Calomiris wholesale and retail produce concession has been at Eastern Market for as long as I can remember, and they always have the freshest of anything one might need, far nicer than what’s available in supermarkets here. They even had my two pounds of shallots, which I actually didn’t expect.
