On my way home from an appointment, I stopped by Eastern Market for some vegetables and remembered what a convenient place it is to shop at on Capitol Hill. The 19th century building burnt down in 2007 but was renovated and reopened in 2009. It serves not only as a shopping place for locals but also as the venue for a huge flea market every weekend and has even become a tourist destination. This bakery has the best apple fritters I’ve ever tasted, and we have bought them there for years, although you have to get there early before they sell out.
