Yet another deserted arcade

And this was taken on a different day from the first one. I really don't know where all the people are, maybe away for the Eid al-Adha week-long holiday.

For those who were curious about the gray edging around walls and pillars, I still don't know what it is, but as you can see it's everywhere. I hope it has some practical use because I don't find it to be very attractive!

It occurred to me that people might find this article about the "ghost town" interesting http://trueslant.com/nathandeuel/2010/02/18/living-in-riyadhs-ghost-town/ -- found for me by fellow Pbaser Tom LeRoy.

Incredible perspective, Helen! BBV!

Even though this image provokes a myriad of thoughts and feelings, the only one I can express is otherworldly.

You are right about the egding, it is distracting to my eye. As for the purpose, apart from the fact that some form of pedestal is an integral part of a column (just as the capital, which is highly stylized here ) it may be just easier to clean. I imagine that a motor sweeper works better that way...

This is an astonishing arcade, elegant in its design, and yet the overall feel is very eerie. Thanks for the link, I must check that out. V

Excellent photograph! Yes, I see that the gray molding is around all the bases of the pillars. Very interesting article from Tom. V.

An atmosphere of foreboding here with this lighting, architecture and the arcade vanishing around the corner. "V"

Sheesh, Helen. That article is very enlightening and very disconcerting. I'm thinking very seriously that you'll want to write a book about your experiences here, if they'll let you!

Superbly composed, once again. The emptiness almost creates a sense of unease. V.

Your series of documentary photos doesn't stop amazing and interesting me. I keep on thinking that the mood is surrealistic and reminds me of a mysterious science-fiction movie where all inhabitants of a planet have disappeared. You conveyed so well the feeling of a little distressing emptiness with this perspective of pillars...
