(In Google Maps click either Satellite or Hybrid & adjust the zoom level.)
At the time of the accident the runway was 4,500 ft shorter than it is now, meaning
this plane came down approximately 1.2 miles before it should have.

I followed up up the reference in google maps and can clearly see the wreckage at the end of the runway. Zooming out the old lava flow is impressive. To see the satellite image click onhttp://maps.google.com/ and enter 19.7586N, 156.0417W is the search maps field. select the satellite tab instead of map tab.
