Eastern Water Dragon, Intellagama lesueurii (male)

Blackheath NSW Australia

Male water dragons reach a substantially larger size than females and aggressively defend their territories from other males.
Healthy males may reach nearly a metre in length and have a deep red flush on the chest. I believe these lizards are amongst the
most charismatic reptiles in Australia. I have a long scar on my wrist resulting from an altercration with one of these animals when
I was about 6 years old.
This specimen was about 70 cm in length.

Very nice image with excellent pose.
The marks are interesting and diferent to the Water Dragons Physignathus lesueurii lesueurii that we have here in Bundaberg, Queensland.
