The largest species of Agamid occurring in Australia, Eastern Water dragons are often found close to human activity and seem to
have survived urban encroachment better than many other species. They tend to live in small groups consisting of a dominant male
and his harem, feeding on small lizards, invertebrates and plant material. They are alert, intelligent lizards, and are capable of
remaining submerged beneath the water for over an hour if disturbed. In areas where human activity is uncommon, these lizards
are usually located by the loud "plop" heard as they leap from a tree branch or river bank into the water.
This specimen is a female measuring about 60 cm in total length.
