This is one in a series of pictures of the capitals of the columns all around us. Some may look the same but are not necessarily of the same column, as patterns seem to have been repeated. They show acanthus and palm foliage deeply undercut so that they produce an effect of white lace on a dark ground. It is possible that they were once gilded.
