Istanbul Chora Church dec 2016 1164.jpg

In the paracclession there are four recesses (arcosolia) that once housed sarcophagi of people who were buried here.
This is the southwestern one. It was for Michael Tornike (who was Grand Constable for Andronikos Palaiogolos). Only traces of him and his wife to his right are visible. A mosaic cross is in the centre of the arch above, to the left in the arch is a mosaic portrait of Michael Tornike in monk's robes, to the right again in mosaic his wife, both damaged.
The frame shows Christ in the centre, two archangels on either side.
