My first real school after kindergarten at Benny Babcock Park. This has to be South Hialeah Elementary. What a lovely school it was.

I only attended first grade here - 1954-55, I think those were the years. If this is what I think I am looking at, my classroom was on that right wing, bottom floor about the third portal area from the stairs. One day I quite boldly took the long route from the bathroom and walked upstairs where all the bigger kids were. It was quite an adventure and I'm sure my teacher wondered where I was.

Does this ever bring back memories! When I attended this school it had been re-named "South Hialeah Elementary School." My first grade, fifth grade and sisth grade classrooms were in the wings pictured here. South Hialeah Elementary's web-site has the current photos of what is now a beautiful courtyard where all the children in this photo are playing.
