David and Goliath

A 1913 Peugeot going head-to-head with a 1912 International Harvester Motor Wagon. Look at the wheels on the International - enormous! The early vehicles for use on farms and rural settings had very tall wheels, because the roads were rutted and muddy. As the roads improved, that became less necessary.

The Peugeot was French. European cars tended to be smaller than American cars, due to the narrow roads in much of Europe.

Yes, the International, while the body is decent-looking and certainly not austere, looks for all the world like they plunked down a car body on top of a farm wagon, which is pretty much true. However, in much of America at that time, getting back home to the farm could be a real challenge. The Peugeot is a very pretty, and small, little runabout, suitable for more social driving.

What a difference a year makes. The 1913 Peugeot has wire wheels, pneumatic tires, a windshield, doors and it is good looking car. While the 1912 International has solid rubber tires, wood spoke wheels and no wind screen. One is a car and good looking and one is a motorized wagon.
Good work Dave.
