I think it is a bit too bright in the foreground to be believable. What I did (to your originally posted image) and liked was:
1. Duplicate background layer and set new layer to 'Multiply' blending mode and an opacity of 50%.
2. Add a 'Selective Color' adjustment layer with the following settings: On the Yellows -100% on cyan, +100% on magenta and +100% on yellow.

Thanks for the comments Olaf. I have been torturing this image in various ways and this is the new version. Sky is darker now and I think it is an improvement but I'm not really sure I've found the right balance for this yet.

I love that sky! The foreground is bit too cluttered for my taste though. I would darken this with 'Curves' to bring out the sky more and tone down the clutter in the foreground at the same time. Would also experiment with a 'Selective Color' adjustment layer to see if I could bring out a little more of the warm color in the sky. Another option worth trying would be to duplicate the background layer and set the blending mode to 'Multiply' and then adjust the opacity of the new layer.
