April 12 2004:
Southern-Raga Jazz

Shalford Park, Guildford

This jazz band played at Shalford Park in Guildford today. To get a ‘normal’ shot of the band you had to shoot into the sun, so I decided on this instead….

Oh, by the way, that's a sousaphone you can see.

Somehow I missed this on the meta-gallery and just saw it now on the PAD forum... very, very well done, Ray. One of my favorites of yours!

I bet that could rattle the windows.

there was sun in Guilford? no!

I like the shape the sousaphone makes as it swoops down across his shoulders and under his arem. I also like that there are the two softer figures in the background. Nice one.

Blow me away with this shot. Much better than a "normal" head on.
Guest 13-Apr-2004 21:18
wow!! Ray, I saw this in the silly Meta gallery yesterday and thought, "That's a cool shot!" but didn't have a moment to comment....so I'm back!

I really like it!! (fantastic comment, eh?)

Amazing shot! The brass gives the shot a nice punch, and the gentlemen are oh-so-elegantly dressed!

Thank goodness for having to change angles due to the sun! This shot is fantastic! I love the second scene that is reflected in the instrument! :)

Great decision super outcome.
Vinay12-Apr-2004 15:22
Great shot. This perspective and sky makes it very somber looking (and sounding).
Guest 12-Apr-2004 15:11
By the way, is that a Sousaphone?
Guest 12-Apr-2004 15:09
The perspective and composition are very effective. The sun drove you into a great shot.
Guest 12-Apr-2004 15:07
I love how you shot this!!! The back of them showing the instrument is a very interesting angle indeed! Love the reflections in the brass of the croud! Ray, it's a fantastic shot!
