28Feb06 Saw Mill in Morning Light - 10255

Saw Mill Park, Ledyard, CT

Photo a Day, Day 335...I've wanted to go to this waterpowered sawmill to photograph it for the b/w February all month however I hadn't made it there prior to this because either it was a) Too dang COLD! or b) I felt miserable... Well feeling halfway decent today and figured since it was the last day of February I'd have to suck up the lovely 17F (not counting the wind) and actually head over to the park. Purposely used the 10-22 as it is adpet to flare more than the 24-70 to get this. Taken on a tripod (I'm getting better with gloves) Took about 20 shots before I felt like my toes, fingers, ears, nose were going to freeze off... more shots (in color) can be found in the new Ledyard gallery http://www.pbase.com/cjburianek/ledyard

I want to thank Gary Winters for bringing up the B/W Challenge for Feb - it has been a very rewarding experience forcing myself to look at things differently and getting a new perspective on taking shots.

If you want to see more of who is doing the February in B/W Challenge check out: http://www.pbase.com/topics/cjburianek/bw_feb.

Those diagonal rays are very beautiful. I also like the composition, the point of view. And I'm impressed by your perfect exposure.

Nice choice shooting the lens to get this flare intentional. Really adds interest and gives this a unique look. Nice texture and detail in the building too. Good job.

Have to see this some time. Love how you captured the "Jesus" rays, making it a very neat picture. Interesting how they have the rocks stacked.
PS It was in the 80's today in our part of the country

Sure glad you braved the cold CJ. And it WAS! This is very very nice--and a great finish to Feb.

Glad you made the effort, a hard one to shoot as well.

Interesting looking at the colour ones, they feel a lot colder!
Thanks for the month, I've enjoyed visiting your work, rgds David
