According to the Swiss Philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau,
one has a certain set of freedoms granted by nature and defined by the actual physical capabilities of our bodies.
He said that we should give up that natural freedom for a set of freedoms within society (social contract).
While we do lose some of our liberty, we gain the capacity to live in a lawful and just society.
In trading one set of rights for another, we can improve our lives.
Freedom is also then the duty for
"responsible economics, for life's sake"
