This Spring the Wildlife Refuge has too many ticks for me to do my daily walk for exercise. The Riverfront Park has not recovered from the early May floods; making those walking trails also no longer an option. So I've been forced to do my 2 mile walk out in the street in our suburban neighborhood. When people kept nervously stopping me to ask why I had the camera, I temporarily dropped the practice of carrying a camera.
Well, it's been almost a month now, and I assume those along my route are finally used to my walking past their homes. So I opted to carry my 300mm lens with me again today. I wasn't particularly expecting to find anything exciting to photograph, but it is good exercise to get ready for Alaska in July. Pleasantly surprised, I came back from my walk with this photograph of a killdeer. I didn't realize before that we had killdeers close to where we live. Besides getting exercise, I learned something new.
