Black Bear in Late Spring

Not true hibernators, black bears merely sleep winter away and often roam about. When they fully awake they are famished as their metabolism has not slowed to a state of full dormancy. Their diet at this time consists of whatever bugs can be found, animals if they can capture them but primarily they exist on green plants.

Very nice Buz! Outstanding shot well executed! With black bears it’s actually pretty difficult to get a decent shot! Echoing others here this could be one of the best I have seen! I watched a bear run in to a forest in Idaho that had been burnt over maybe a decade before and vanish before my eyes among the black stumps and the shadows of the small trees. It was still there because one could see little glimpses of it if it looked back over it’s shoulder. I have seen the same thing in Olympic N.P. - BV
