The Chiles of Hatch

Hatch

New Mexico is the leading producer of chiles in the USA. Since 1998 they've had 21,000 acres under cultivation.
There are over 2000 varieties.
The town of Hatch holds an annual Chile Festival every September.
On the day we drove through town we saw ristras hanging from almost every building and many rooftops loaded with read chiles.

I grew up in Las Cruces, not far from Hatch, and went to several of the festivals. Was disappointed when I went back for it in 2007. Now its more like a chile disneyland with rides. They used to have old time fiddlers and chile eating contests. My friends and I just drove through town and took pictures. (I'm in Tucson now and have added comments to your great photos when I found out new info. Hope you don't mind.) Love the pictures!
