Most of the trinitite was removed from the blast area in the early 1950's and buried but you can still find many small pieces of this greenish rock.
During our visit I was struck by the vast numbers of people down on the ground looking for it. And photographing it.
Only mildly radioactive now, it was formed by the enormous heat from the blast on the desert sand.
Removal of it from Trinity Site is forbidden.
