The culmination of the work of the Manhattan Project.
The plaque reads " TRINITY SITE where the world's first nuclear device was exploded on July 16, 1945." There is no evidence of a crater for the bomb was actually suspended from a tower.
Open to visitors for free on the first Saturday in October and April, you are allowed to visit the site of the explosion which is marked by this pyramid. A military bus takes you to the MacDonald House where the bomb was assembled and the scientists lived.
For me, it was an unforgettable experience.
