Driving along the Alpine Tunnel Road (actually the DSP&P RR bed), one of the the historic structures is the Midway filling station. All that remains of the once circular water tank are the original supporting timbers and base structure. It held 47,500 gallons of water which came from a gravity-fed spring nearby and was used to fill the tenders for the hard climb between the town of Quartz and the Alpine Tunnel.
