This was scanned from the larger Kindle e-reader with Flip-Pal mobile scanner, which scans photos in place in albums, magazines, etc., when the lid is removed for that.
It's difficult to get a good photo of text on e-reader screens, and even this one does not capture the quality of the text, which in 'real' life looks etched and is thinner, sharper, and darker (similar in the smaller Kindle 3 models), but it gives an idea and doesn't warp the image the way taking a photo with a camera close up can. The scan is partial as the screen is about 5 x 7 but the DXG screen is 9.7" overall. Included is software that not only "restores" colors and changes color cast, but also lets you take scans of portions and then autostitches them together without your having to align the images because the software takes care of that, the user's guide says. I haven't tried the software for that yet. Default scan is 300 dpi but you can choose 600 dpi which I did select for this and then resized it down for the web. This image looks good on the smaller Kindle 3 also, but because it's viewed on a 6" overall screen, there are less words on the page, of course. The photos in this e-book are even better enlarged when you use Landscape mode, but I'm displaying default portrait mode. |
