The sun continues to beat down on Sydney during our Week Of Heat. (Just as a category 5 cyclone prepares to slam itself into the northern Queensland coast, a rather worse state of affairs.)
While I'm not enjoying this, it hasn't been as bad as some summers yet... but ask me again by Sunday. There was the occasional gust of a cool sea breeze near the water which made the temperature tolerable while you were exposed to it. On the other hand my assistant went out briefly, declared the conditions "disgusting", and opted to take a half hour lunch break in the cool of the office than an hour in the heat of the sun.
When I got home (which is far away from the sea breeze, in a place where the temperatures were several degrees higher than the city) my place was like an oven (yet again) and I'm not sure how sleep will be tonight.
Indeed, when I opened the refrigerator to get out dinner I could have sworn that the frozen chicken in there said to me "Hah! Now you know how I feel!" Of course, that may have just been a heat-induced hallucination.
This image shows a baking building in the midday sun. The harsh shadow cast by the upper window frame and the decoration around the building masonry speak of the starkness of the heat, which is also why I opted to keep the image to very basic geometric shapes and crop out everything else.
