Jan 3: ForeverPC

In September 2001 I bought a spanky new PC. A 1.3Ghz AMD Athlon with a massive 512Mb RAM and a 40Gb hard drive. Woohoo! And I’ve still got it today. It’s the ForeverPC. It doesn’t get replaced, just upgraded as and when. As of today, it has an 3.2Ghz AMD A-8 quad core, 4Gb RAM and a 1Tb Hard drive. Now that's more like it. Not a top end gaming machine, but it should handle my 5D raw files in a snap! Over the years it’s had three system boards, 4 CPUs, 3 graphics cards, 3 mice, 2 keyboards, 3 screens, an upgraded power supply and several memory upgrades. This being the long overdue second major revision, I’m calling it Forever PC v3.0. But still the same PC. Well, it has the same case, And the same file/folder structure. Or rather it should, but that new hard drive is giving me problems. The system can see it, but my backup/restore prog tells me it’s not there. Hmmmm. Might have to step back to FoeverPC 2.9... I think my geek power is fading.

It sounds a little like the old farmer's ax-the one that has had three new heads and four handles, but it's the same ax he's had for 40 years.

Too many CAPS and numbers for me to grapple with there!
