Jan 2: Eiffel Tower Lemonade

I noticed this bottle a few days ago, sticking out of wall in the garden. It’s one of the more interesting items of rubbish we’ve found here. The walls themselves are typical of the area, being granite on the outside with rubble and earth in the middle. Rabbits, tunnelling in, through and under have all but destroyed them over the years. The bottle was hanging from the mouth of a rabbit tunnel like a little rabbity porch light. Cleaned up I could read “Foster Clark’s Ltd, Maidstone” on one side and “Eiffel Tower Lemonade” on the other. It seems it was popular 100 or so years ago and sold in crystal form in these tiny bottles. Quite why a company in Kent would use ‘Eiffel Tower’ as a brand name I cannot guess. What a lovely bottle, and what a story.
I am incredibly jealous.
When I dig my garden the crop is flint and a massive community of slugs.
They are welcome to eat all the weeds they find, but prefer my flowers :-(
