SSgt. Robert W. Hartsock-44th IPSD KIA Feb 69 Awarded Medal of Honor
My heart goes out to all who lost a dog and a peice of their heart and soul with that dog. I lost my German Shepherd and best friend in May. He had a heart of gold and more inteligence than most people I know. He was always at my side and I miss him evry minute of every day. I'm not sure many people have ever known a dog like him nor do they understand that it's right up there with loosing a human friend but I know you guys do. The dogs you guys lost must have been dogs like my Varro, he was just so smart and dedicated with an uncanny intuation and understanding. He was trained in search and in protection work, he would stand up to a threat in a split second yet he would lick the face of kid or group of kids who ran up to him and never show one hint of annoyance or apprehension. Not many people have known a dog like that. Does it hurt any less after a while?? I sure hope it does. I know Varro and all of your dogs are in the good place they earned. Bless you all and I'd love to hear your stories, maybe it would help.
