Today's ROSE BOWL game is a really, really big deal to me! When I attended TCU in the late 70's, we were lucky to pull off 1 win a season.
LaDainian Tramayne Tomlinson (aka "LT"), running back, brought new life back into the TCU football program in the late 90's.
TCU had appeared in only one bowl game in the previous 12 seasons (and 2 in the previous 34), and had been "downgraded" to a minor conference (the Western Athletic Conference) after the breakup of the long-standing Southwest Conference.
So would you please join me in cheering on the fightin' purple Horned Frogs!
Raise your glass of purple pilsner and click on the team's fight song below:
TCU (12-0) vs. Wisconsin (11-1)
WHEN: Jan. 1, 5 p.m.
WHERE: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, Calif.
TV: ESPN (Brent Musburger will do play-by-play, with Kirk Herbstreit as the analyst).
THE LINE: TCU by 3.
RECORDS VS. BOWL TEAMS: TCU 6-0, Wisconsin 4-1.
NCAA SCHEDULE STRENGTH: TCU 75th, Wisconsin 70th.
BCS RANKINGS: TCU 3rd, Wisconsin 5th.
OFFICIATING CREW: From the SEC.
COACHES: TCU-Gary Patterson (5-4 in bowls); Wisconsin-Bret Bielema (2-2 in bowls).
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: This is arguably the best matchup off all the BCS games, with the high-scoring Badgers facing the tough defense of the Horned Frogs. Wisconsin needs to defend the Big Ten’s honor in a BCS bowl, while TCU hopes to show a non-automatic qualifier can prevail on the big stage. The Frogs will move to the Big East.
KEY STATS: Wisconsin and TCU are tied for fourth nationally in scoring offense at 43.3 points per game. TCU is first nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 11.4 points per game. Wisconsin’s defense allows 20.5 points, tied for 29th nationally.
Lol, I'm seeing a lot of TCU jerseys out here this week, all with big smiles on the owners faces! Enjoy the game and cheers to a fun start to a great New Year, Stephanie!
