Totally Informal Transglobal Challenge - Rules

The Triangular Rule

Rule 4 - The Triangular Rule

This works in the same way as the rule of thirds does.
Where the rule of the thirds encourages the designer to place things to one side, either the left or the right (never the centre), the Triangular Rule allows for the designer to place things in the centre of the document.

Great choice, well executed!

cool! like the sidelighting too..
Máire Uí Mhaicín05-Dec-2008 10:41
This may encourage central placing but it's hard to get away from the magic three: three sides, three colours! Great shot.

They gave one of these away for free with The World of Cross-Stitching a while ago - are you a subscriber? ;-))))

Nice, great explanation! And although these pens are unruly in the hand, I love them!

Nice rule, I like it!
Had to think a little before I remembered what it shows, yes, that is right, the three colored marker pen!
Here is an observation:
The triangle's center is doubtlessly in the center of the picture, yet it seems to me that the psychological "center" is below the real center, probably near the lower third of the picture, because the triangle stands on its base.
The horizontal line that divides it into two equal areas is near there.

Well, err, highlighted :-))

Sounds a bit like the 'off side' rule in football, complicated! ...
Nicki Thurgar04-Dec-2008 21:03
Not heard that one before, clever stuff! ;o)
Ann...04-Dec-2008 20:57
This reminds me of a marker pen I once had!!!
