Thursday TransGlobal Challenge: What is it?

To me, what this is is quite obvious,
but to the casual observer it may be a 'challenge'.

OKAY SEVERAL BOAT GUESSES SO FAR...
Yes it is part of a boat.
Which part?
The attached lines (ropes) are just incidental.

See next day's PaD for the answer.

My guess is it's the bow of a fold-boat.
Scott Browne08-Sep-2006 14:15
Well done.
Guest 08-Sep-2006 08:39
I'm very puzzled.....................what is it?
Susan Leigh08-Sep-2006 08:32
Nicely framed composition..well balanced.
It does look boaty ;-)
Sheila08-Sep-2006 03:05
My husband and I have been poring over this image so intently, we didn't notice you'd posted the answer, LOL!
Guest 08-Sep-2006 00:54
Well it looks pretty makeshift, like you tie it all together to quickly make a boat. Is this some sort of lifeboat... usually folded away but easy to assemble in a hurry?
purpod08-Sep-2006 00:47
I have to agree with everyone; great shot, but I'm with Faye.. a boat thingy is as good as I can guess! Xllnt entry, Dave!
virginiacoastline08-Sep-2006 00:46
Something to do with Shibumi no doubt . .but exactly WHAT . . .dunno
Yvonne08-Sep-2006 00:26
Mooring rope?
Faye White07-Sep-2006 23:48
I think Dan has it!
Ray :)07-Sep-2006 23:47
ah yes, this is the part above the watermark where its all held together :)
Cindi Smith07-Sep-2006 23:36
Sails tied together? Not sure.
Deborah Lewis07-Sep-2006 23:05
You have me on this one????
Al Chesworth07-Sep-2006 22:56
Is it the corner of a weather awning.
Guest 07-Sep-2006 22:52
Haha!!!!
This is your baby's part. Good shot.
Dan Chusid07-Sep-2006 22:51
Dinghy?
Guest 07-Sep-2006 22:49
This is scary, your boat tied together with string:-)))
Eckhart Derschmidt07-Sep-2006 22:22
I am not familiar enough with boats to make a guess. Tried to find a clue on your previous pads, but in vain! Too difficult for a landlubber likeme ;-)
Bob Floyd07-Sep-2006 22:11
Mark me down for a nautical guess as well but no clue beyond that.
shatterbug07-Sep-2006 21:39
Hmmm, guess I'm a casual observer too :-) Nicely done!
laine8207-Sep-2006 21:14

Guest 07-Sep-2006 20:54

Chris07-Sep-2006 20:44
Messing about with boats...but what, I haven't a clue! Nice contrasts.Chris
J. Scott Coile07-Sep-2006 20:26
...nice knots :) I wonder what that would be on :) Well done Dave!
Jen Bixler07-Sep-2006 20:15
I'm guessing something with a sail...
cool image.
Tomasz Dziubinski - Photography07-Sep-2006 18:56
Interesting shot but I have no clue :)
Lee Rudd07-Sep-2006 18:36
the bow? or maybe the stern?
Guest 07-Sep-2006 18:10
Other than a square knot the only other name that I know is a sheepshank Knot
Is it used for shortening a line?
Guest 07-Sep-2006 17:49
something to do with a boat - other than that - i'm clueless
Nicki Thurgar07-Sep-2006 17:41
Well, it's a proper ships knot of course... actually I don't know but it's definitely something boaty! ;O)
Jola Dziubinska07-Sep-2006 17:33
Sailing boat's detail.
chrisse07-Sep-2006 17:31
It must be some part of a sailing boat I think... Nice image.
chrisse
Faye White07-Sep-2006 17:31
it's a boat thingy! ;)
Kathy Pedersen07-Sep-2006 17:29
I know it is apart of a boat, with the knots that are tied. I love the pov of this image, nice strong lines and nice contrasting colors. Almost looks like the parts of a sail boat, but I am sure I am wrong:) Nice shot and challenge~
James Ross07-Sep-2006 17:20
Are we talking the knot here??
