On the west side of the Agora sits the Theseion, a temple dedicated to the god Hephaestus (whom the Romans called Vulcan), and commemorating the labors of Theseus (hence the name). It was built a few years before the Parthenon, and is substantially more complete. It was used continuously until the 1930s, first as a temple, then as a church, lastly as a museum. It is the most complete Doric temple in the Greek world.
