Not surprisingly, the National Museum in Athens houses a spectacular collection of Greek antiquities. Although its emphasis is on ancient Greek sculpture, the museum also holds vast displays of pottery and the treasure excavated by Heinrich Schliemann at Mycenae. The pottery collection goes back to 7000 BC or so and extends up to the Roman era. The sculpture collection is similarly comprehensive, with an amazing collection of Cycladic, Archaic, and Classical treasures. Other museums in the world need to stand in awe of this collection. It's unlike anything else on Earth.
