The Acropolis hill has been occupied by humans for about 8000 years. This is easy to understand, given the fact that it's completely vertical on three sides; the only approach is from the west. In classical times, it was the center of worship for the goddess Athena and contained several other minor temples on its summit. These images are of the approach to the Acropolis from street level. It's more dramatic than photographs can represent.
